Hi Senator Becker,
I am writing as a constituent concerned with labor issues in your district. I know you have been a strong supporter of labor in the past as demonstrated by your facing arrest for joining workers on the picket line at SFO (1). As I am sure you are aware, over 48,000 academic workers employed across the state at the UC system have gone on strike for better working conditions.
Since you are a Founding Trustee of UC Merced, I wanted to ask you to release a public statement in solidarity with the striking workers. Your position as my elected official, your past support for labor, and your status as a Founding Trustee at a UC campus uniquely position you to have an impact in support of academic workers looking to have the dignity of supporting themselves and their families through labor.
