Gilroy City Council Meeting – CALL FOR PUBLIC COMMENT !!
Mon, July 27 at 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
![]()
Right on the border of Gilroy, the federal government is trying to build a massive new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on 7240 Holsclaw Road.
While California’s Attorney General, Santa Clara County, and neighboring cities like San Jose and Mountain View have stepped up to sue and block this facility. Meanwhile, the Gilroy City Council has been pathetically inactive. Alongside Morgan Hill, Gilroy has refused to sign onto the lawsuit.
To make matters worse, our local leaders are actively laying the groundwork for the very systems ICE relies on. Right down the road, the council quietly approved a massive Amazon (AWS) data center with zero public hearings. This matters because Amazon’s cloud databases power the exact surveillance and data-tracking networks ICE uses to target, track, and deport our community members.
That is why the symbolic resolution the Gilroy City Council passed on June 1st is nowhere near enough. We cannot protect our communities from masked agents and concentration camps while simultaneously rolling out the red carpet for the corporate tech infrastructure that supports them.
We need binding municipal policy, not paper promises!
We need open, transparent, and protective leaders who don’t back down when they have the power to help us!
We need to take action, NOW!
