SUMMARY:Mobilization in Support of Ranked Choice Voting 04.15.25
DESCRIPTION:At our annual Chapter Convention\, members overwhelmingly voted in favor of having our chapter officially adopt a position to advocate for the adoption of ranked choice voting in Santa Clara County Elections. The resolution passed with no opposition\, indicating the depth of support from membership. Our first action in support of the resolution will be to mobilize to a meeting of the Finance and Government Operations Committee (FGOC) of the County Board of Supervisors. \nOn the Tuesday April 15 at 2 pm\, FGOC has an agenda item (#6) to receive a report relating to adoption of ranked-choice voting. We will have members attending both in person and virtually by Zoom to make public comments in support of ranked choice voting. Some people are already organizing to oppose RCV in favor of the less democratic primary system where a subset of voters often make a final decision without the general electorate having a chance to have their say. Please join us in person or virtually by Zoom to show the strong community support. Voters already told the Board of Supervisors we want RCV in our elections back in 1998\, nearly 30 years ago. But the only way change will happen is if we organize and mobilize together to force the issue. \nWe are coordinating on our Slack channel and will have a communication thread for in-person and virtual attendees. In person attendees can comment by arriving at the Board of Supervisors Chamber at 70 West Hedding Street in San Jose and submitting a card to the clerk.
