SUMMARY:DSA 101
DESCRIPTION:At DSA\, we believe a better world is possible. But the only way it can happen is if we organize together as members of the working class to restructure society based on human needs. DSA is the largest socialist organization in the United States\, but we have to grow even larger to change our society. One barrier to growth is lack of knowledge about socialism in general and DSA as an organization specifically. \nWhat is socialism? How can we achieve it? What projects does Silicon Valley DSA work on? How is our chapter structured to do work? How can I get involved? We are running a DSA 101 event where we will answer these questions and any others that you bring. This event is open to the public\, and we encourage non-members to get involved and come with any questions. \nThe event will be held at SEIU 521 Union Hall on Saturday October 25 at 12:15-1 PM\, right before our monthly General Chapter Meeting. \nA hybrid Zoom option is available. SUMMARY:Labor Movie Night "Partners" Ultra-topical!
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday evening\, December 4th at 7 pm\, at the SEIU-521 Hall\, 2302 Zanker Road\, for a screening of “Partners.” This documentary screening couldn’t be more timely\, given that the Starbucks Workers United-led strike wave has reached San José! \nThe full title of the film: “Partners: A Film About How Starbucks Baristas Started a Labor Revolution.” Yes\, this is a Gen-Z led labor revolution! A union struggle breaking new ground in a gig-work dominated industry. \nThis screening will be special in several ways: we will have a SWU strike leader with us\, to discuss and answer questions. We will have baristas and SWU staff joining us from the area\, including Santa Cruz\, where the strikes began in California. And we will be able to build support right there and then\, to support the on-going strikes in San José. \nFood and drink will also be on hand. Make plans to attend\, and help spread the word!

SUMMARY:TELL TARGET: ICE OUT! SOLIDARITY ACTION FOR MINNESOTA
DESCRIPTION:What is happening in Minnesota wouldn’t be possible without the complicity or enablement of Trump’s corporate backers. Despite countless immigrant families ripped apart\, American citizens killed in our streets\, many corporations continue to support him. Refusing to take a stand with our communities and frequently directly supporting ICE. We are standing up to stop this regime of terror. To win\, we need companies like Target to use their influence to force the administration to end the occupation of our cities\, and not bring their chaos anywhere else. \nTarget is Minnesota’s leading corporate citizen. It is the 4th largest employer in the state. Minnesota’s sports teams play in stadiums and jerseys with Target’s logo on them. Where Target leads\, others follow. Target donated $1\,000\,000 to Trump’s inauguration\, rolled back DEI initiatives\, and has reportedly allowed ICE to stage operations in its parking lots. On January 8th Customs and Border Patrol assaulted and kidnapped two US citizens while they were working a shift at the Richfield\, MN Target store. For weeks\, Target remained silent while the community it calls home were terrorized\, abducted\, and killed. After the killing of Alex Pretti\, Target finally broke their silence and joined on to a statement from the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce alongside 60 major Minnesota corporations. That statement called for “cooperation” between state and federal government\, an incredibly alarming call given that Attorney General Pam Bondi has clarified what “cooperation” would entail: granting the DOJ access to Minnesota voter rolls and other tools of federal overreach in the name of “ending the chaos” this administration\, violently created. \nJoin us in calling on Target to stand FIRMLY with Minnesotans against these attacks. All week\, starting February 11th\, we are showing up to Target stores\, holding sit ins and candlelight vigils across the front doors\, coming together to demand better. If they’re willing to kick community members out for sitting inside\, they should be ready to kick out the immigration agents terrorizing our communities. \nWe are demanding that Target: \n\nPublicly call for an immediate end to the ICE “surge” into MN and for ICE & Border Patrol to leave the state.\nAffirm Target as a 4th Amendment Workplace. (Exercise their 4th Amendment rights and publicly post signage denying entrance to immigration agents who do not have signed judicial warrants as required by law\, as well train staff on how to respond when immigration agents arrive at stores.)\nPublicly call to shut down Trump’s ICE. Lobby congress for no federal funding for ICE in the upcoming Congressional budget and ICE should be investigated for human and Constitutional violations of Americans and our neighbors.\nDemand any federal officer who kills or harms a civilian be held legally accountable. That starts with legitimate investigations and charges by local officials.\n\nWe recognize and honor the incredible work done by the Target Boycott Campaign regarding the company’s removal of DEI initiatives and are in solidarity with the campaign led by black grassroots organizers in Minnesota. We support the ongoing boycott\, which continues until their demands are met.
