SUMMARY:Phone Zap for Stanford 11
DESCRIPTION:In June 2024\, students\, alumni\, and one student reporter were arrested at a sit-in of the office of Stanford University’s president in protest of Stanford’s complicity with Israel’s genocide in Palestine. In Santa Clara County\, the District Attorney Jeff Rosen has chosen to charge these protesters against genocide with felonies\, and 11 Stanford student protesters have been indicted on two grand jury charges\, making them the first out of thousands of protesters across the nation in the past two years to go to felony trial over their pro-Palestinian activism. \nThe next court date for the Stanford 11 is November 17\, where trial proceedings are set to be scheduled and assigned. Therefore\, Silicon Valley DSA’s international solidarity working group is standing in solidarity with the Stanford 11 by holding a weekly phone zap among our members to call Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen\, Stanford University’s President Levin\, and Representative Ro Khanna to pressure them to drop these unprecedented charges against the Stanford 11! DESCRIPTION:At DSA\, we believe a better world is possible. But the only way this can happen is if we organize together as members of the working class to restructure society based on human needs. DSA is the largest socialist organization in the United States\, but we have to grow even larger to change our society. One barrier to growth is lack of knowledge about socialism in general and DSA as an organization specifically. \nWhat is socialism? How can we achieve it? What projects does Silicon Valley DSA work on? How is our chapter structured to do work? How can I get involved? We are running a DSA 101 event where we will answer these questions and any others that you bring. This event is open to the public\, and we encourage non-members to get involved and come with any questions. \nThe event will be held at SEIU 521 Union Hall on Saturday\, December 5th from 6:30PM-7:30 PM. \nJoin us for an after-101 social!
