Southbay Indigenous Solidarity Organizing Meeting
July 30 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Please join Southbay Indigenous Solidarity (AKA Friends of Juristac) and help protect Juristac, which is the most sacred site of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, who are the Indigenous people of the Bay Area.
Juristac is under threat of development. The development offers short term profit, but the cultural and ecological losses will be eternal. This land has cultural relevance, including burial sites and former villages. Juristac also contains a critical Bay Area wildlife linkage corridor, and a small but pristine watershed which is home to endangered species like Sturgeon and the California Red Tailed Frog. This watershed and wildlife corridor will be destroyed if an industrial complex is built at Juristac.
Only a massive outcry of public support will save Juristac. We are looking for volunteers to organize with us. Our actions include tabling, writing letters and Op Eds, planning presentations for Amah Mutsun members to share their creation story and history. We’re looking for a webmaster, and people to do data entry. We’re looking for friends to table with and gather petition signatures and postcards for the County Supervisors who will be voting on whether to save or develop Juristac. We also share updates from the tribe, including invitations to fun tribal events that are open to the public!
