RAD: Reading and Discussion
May 17 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Silicon Valley DSA is hosting some webinar reading groups during the quarantine that engage with our immediate political situation. We would like to encourage participation from others as well as ideas on readings and topics that will bring people in and build the socialist movement. Get in touch with the Political Education working group at email@example.com or on our Slack channel.
Our next meeting will be on May 17 at noon. We will discuss Marxism in Settler-Colonial States. Our readings this week will look at indigenous perspectives on Marxism, how Marx grappled with slavery, and what this means for building solidarity in settler-colonial states like the US and almost all of Latin America.
There are two articles, an interview, and a short third optional article that we’ll use as a starting point for discussion.
- Colonies and Capital (Benjamin Balthaser)
- An Indigenous Reconstruction in Brazil (Sônia Guajajara)
- What Slavery Tells us about Marx (Stephanie Smallwood)
- Optional: What Marx Understood about Slavery (Kevin B. Anderson)
They are linked above in PDF form for easy reading. You don’t have to read them in advance, but it is encouraged!
We look forward to seeing you there!
