Labor History Movie Night: Matewan
April 8, 2018 at 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Short URL: https://siliconvalleydsa.org/?p=710
Take a break from your labors, convene with your comrades, and learn a little labor history through film. This Sunday we’ll be watching the 1987 classic Matewan, which dramatizes a 1920 armed struggle in the mining town of Matewan, West Virginia. Collective memory of events like this and the Battle of Blair Mountain have been integral to the West Virginia labor consciousness among teachers in the news lately.
Feel free to bring food and beverages you might enjoy, although we will also have some movie snacks available. The venue is a clubhouse in a private apartment complex and comes with lots of comfy seating but you may want to bring your own blankets if you want to get cozy!
DSA-adjacent friends, family, and interested parties are very welcome to attend (note: movie is PG-13, 2 hours and 15 minutes long).
$5 suggested donation at the door to cover supplies. If still applicable, we will be passing the hat to support the Oklahoma Teachers’ Strike Fund.
